Places to Visit

  1. Grand Etang de St Esteph - Freshwater lake with sandy beach and shallow, warm water for paddling/swimming. Free (half hour)kayaking sessions. Lifeguard service and cafes/restaurant/Tourist Info on-site. 20 mins drive away

  2. Aventure Parc, Massignac - Treetop Adventure Park with various levels of difficulty and a tiny-tots adventure area. On-site cafe but also possible to bring own pic-nics (tables/benches available). 10 mins drive away

  3. Vallee de Singes (Valley of the Monkeys) - Monkey sanctuary with various species of monkeys on display in their ‘natural’ surroundings! 1 hour 10 mins drive away

  4. Futoroscope, Poitiers - Renowned Science Park with many displays and interactive games. Great fun for all the family! 1 hour away. 

  5. Nautilis Aqua Centre, Angouleme - Large Indoor/Outdoor pool complex with water slides and wave-maker. Large lake in the same area with footpath around the perimeter and sandy beach. 30 mins drive away. 

  6. VeloRail, Roumaziers - A section of ‘no longer used’ railway track is now utilised by 5-person, pedal-powered vehicles which transport the 2 pedallers and three ‘passengers’ through some scenic and shady Charente countryside. Exercise and enjoyment for the whole family! 20 mins drive away.

  7. St Matieu Lake - Freshwater lake with path, suitable for buggies, running round the perimeter. Sandy beach and children’s play area. Lifeguards and small cafe by the beach. 20 mins drive away

  8. Lakes of the High Charente - Freshwater lakes with sandy beaches. Walks and cycle tracks in the same area and cafe/restaurant near the beach. 15 mins drive away

  9. Brantome - The scenic town of Brantome, known as the Venice of the Perigord, is about a one hour drive away just across the border in the northern Dordogne. Beautiful scenery, a medieval abbey and 11th century belfry with pavement cafes and restaurants, and large Friday Market. Large park and kayaking on the river Dronne, which circles the town. 

  10. Cognac - The ‘spiritual’ home of the brandy industry is just a one hour drive away. Visits to the major cognac houses can be arranged or just enjoy the historic ambience of this world- famous town. 

  11. Go Karting - Passion Karting 16 (10 mins drive)

  12. The nearby first century Roman settlement of Cassinomagus at Chassenon is a unique place to visit with its thermal baths and vast archeological park and gardens with the opportunity for children to dress up in costumes.

  13. Circuit des Remparts d'Angoulême - The International Circuit des Remparts finds its route in the city, unchanged since the first in 1939 for 3 days - 13th, 14th & 15th September 2019. This annual event is a must for fans of vintage cars. The International Circuit des Remparts turns Angoulême into a giant museum on wheels where old-timers and classic cars make fans dream during three days. Official Circuit des Remparts site.
